GMIM'S 91 Anniversary, Robot: The Light Cannot Be Hidden

With hearts full of joy and gratitude, GMIM Alpha Omega New Jersey–New York celebrated the 91st Anniversary of GMIM Bersinode at St. Jacobus Evangelical Lutheran Church in Woodside, New York. The thanksgiving service, attended by congregation members and guests from various regions, marked a meaningful moment to reflect on God’s faithfulness that has guided GMIM since it became a synod in 1934.

The service was led by Rev. Allan Robot, S.Th, Chairperson of the Congregational Board of GMIM Musafir Columbus, Ohio, who delivered a sermon based on the theme “Live in the Light of Christ.” Rev. Robot encouraged the congregation to be steadfast as the light of Christ in the world.“Light cannot be hidden. Wherever it goes, it will remain light. If we are the light of the world, we will proclaim the goodness of God,” he emphasized.

The worship began with a beautiful Angklung performance by the Youth, bringing a touch of Minahasan culture, followed by the processional entry of the worship leaders. The moment of confession of sins was powerfully conveyed through a poem read by Mrs. Jola Sekeon, which created a solemn and heartfelt atmosphere. The worship team also included Mrs. Tammy Luntungan, Mr. Berty Katuuk, Mr. Victor Ponto, and Mr. Allen Kumolontang, who served with dedication.

Following the service, the celebration continued with cultural and artistic performances coordinated by Mrs. Joke Kaunang-Malonda and Elder Mieke Merentek. Highlights of the program included:

  • A heartfelt solo performance by Nathanael Pinontoan.

  • A joyful Line Dance by the Women’s/Fellowship of Mothers’ group.

  • A lively and harmonious Masamper performance by the Men’s Fellowship, showcasing the rich Minahasan musical tradition.

The celebration concluded on a powerful and uplifting note as the entire congregation of GMIM Alpha Omega joined together to sing “I Speak Jesus,” expressing their faith and prayer that the light of Christ continues to shine in their lives and community.

This special occasion served as a testament that, even far from their Minahasan homeland, the spirit of GMIM Bersinoderemains vibrant—seen in their ministry, fellowship, and commitment to preserving their cultural heritage. The congregation expressed hope that this anniversary would strengthen the bond among GMIM communities in the diaspora and inspire everyone to continue being the light of Christ wherever they are.
